I AM: Chosen Week Three – Day Four
There is this song by the David Crowder Band called How He Loves. It describes God as being jealous for us, having great affection for us, that we are His portion and He is our prize. The chorus is simply made up of the words, “Oh, how He loves us” and it is repeated over and over. The words are said so many times I am forced to stop and realize the magnitude of their meaning causing me to get overwhelmed with gratitude.
When is the last time you took the time to ponder just how much God loves you?
I admit, at times, I gloss over words in Scripture I have committed to memory causing them to lose their meaning. This week, knowing we are chosen by God and believing it to be true for ourselves requires us to go back to the foundation of our faith.
Before we go any further, say a prayer asking God to help you read His Word with fresh eyes. Ready? Let’s dig in.
Read 2 Thessalonians 2:13 (CSB) below.
“But we ought to thank God always for you, brothers and sisters loved by the Lord, because from the beginning God has chosen you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and through belief in the truth.”
When did God choose us for salvation?
How do we receive salvation?
The Greek word for sanctification is hagiasmos. It means holiness. Therefore, to be sanctified means to be made holy, set apart, chosen, to be used according to God’s purpose for our life. We receive our salvation when we live our life according to God’s chosen design for our life, and our belief in the truth.
You see, the truth is our belief in Jesus.
“For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” John 1:17
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
John 3:16
Sisters, please do not gloss over these words. God’s love for us runs so deep He willingly sacrificed His only son, while we were still sinners so that we can spend eternity with Him. This is what it means to be chosen.
The Bible reminds us over and over of this truth. Look up the following verses, write the words I Am Chosen in your Bible next to each verse..
Romans 8:28-30:
Ephesians 1:11
Ephesians 2:10
1 Peter 2:9
It is time for us stop merely listening to the Word and start being doers by stepping out of the darkness, into the light and take our rightful place as a chosen child of God.
Will you join me?
Reflect:
What stood out to you from this week’s study?
Which of the above Bible verses had the greatest impact on you? Why?
Write a love note to God acknowledging how He chose you from the beginning and express your gratitude for the depth of His Love.
Father God, forgive us for our unbelief. Help us to always remember from the beginning you chose Jesus to be the way, the truth, and the life the same way you chose us for your will.
